The Sega Genesis. The 16 bit power house console that helped Sega capture the hearts of gamers around the world. When you here the word "Sega", its never surprising to find out most people automatically think of the Genesis, or as it was known in other parts of the world, the Mega Drive. Though it failed to out perform the competition in Japan, it won a huge portion of the market share in Europe, and here in the United States. After looking for distribution in the US through a few different outlets, Sega eventually decided to lace up their own boots, and launch the console under it's own subsidiary, Sega of America. The Genesis launched in the later part of 1989. During it's lifespan we saw court cases on 3rd party development(Sega vs Accolade), congressional hearings on mature content in video games, and legendary slogans that stand the test of time. The Sega Genesis is without a doubt, one of the most interesting, and impactful consoles in gaming history. With multiple models released, and an incredibly diverse library of games, I think it's safe to say, Genesis does... what Nintendon't.
